Following a beating in the latest German elections, EU poster girl Angela Merkel is reportedly set to give up the leadership of her party.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel will quit as head of her Christian Democratic party after nearly two decades, a person familiar with the matter said, a dramatic sign of her waning authority that will raise questions about her staying power as chancellor.
Mrs Merkel has been CDU chairman since 2000 and has held the post of Chancellor for 13 years. After the disastrous election results, she’s had to give up her job.
It is understood she will remain Chancellor.
