Mail bombs have been intercepted today at ex-president Barack Obama’s office and the home of former president Bill Clinton and former secretary of state Hillary Clinton.
Also, the CNN newsroom in New York was evacuated due to a suspicious package, which turned out to contain a pipe bomb. It was not immediately clear whether this incident was linked with those involving Obama and the Clintons.
It comes just 2 days after a bomb was detonated at the residence of billionaire financier George Soros.
The White House has condemned attempted attacks on these prominent figures.
A statement released by the Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said: “We condemn the attempted violent attacks recently made against President Obama, President Clinton, Secretary Clinton, and other public figures.
“These terrorizing acts are despicable, and anyone responsible will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”
Texas Senator Ted Cruz also weighed in saying: “Violence is never OK. Reports of bombs sent to the homes of Obama, Clinton, and Soros are deeply, deeply disturbing.
“America is better than this. Political disagreements are fine, even healthy, but we should always be civil and respect each other’s humanity.”
